Charlene Rose Ellis
Died: Sunday, November 04, 2018
Charlene Rose Ellis loved nothing more than to watch things grow - her family and the connections between them, the flowers in her gardens, and the art from whatever canvas she was using.
She was, at first, a daughter, granddaughter, cousin, and niece. She became a sister and then an aunt and great-aunt who found joy in shaping and supporting the lives of the children who knew her as Aunt Char and loved her as another mother.
From the time she was in high school, she earned the trust of the community as a teller and then assistant manager at Capac State Bank. During her time at the bank, she worked in the Capac, Allenton and Imlay City branches and was known and liked by many in those communities as a friendly face on the other side of the counter.
In recent years she became a link between generations and family members long lost or never known because of her great interest in genealogy and preserving memories of the past. She was active in the Capac Historical Society and made many contributions to the shared knowledge of area familial history.
Charlene was also an avid painter and artist in the tole painting community. She and her painting friends gathered regularly both locally and at seminars around the country. For many years her painting home was the Flint-based Valley Tole and Decorative Painters group. After retirement from the bank, she regularly inspired others in their art by teaching tole painting classes to others at area community and senior centers.
In her spare time, Charlene loved to travel, listen to music, enjoy a weekly card game with friends and family, participate in activities with both the Berlin Township and Capac Senior Centers, and spend time relaxing at her family cabin and farm.
Charlene was born in Pontiac on January 16, 1948, to Clyde and Adeline Ellis. She graduated from Capac High School in 1966 and lived her life in that community. Charlene passed away November 4, 2018, in peace at McLaren Hospital in Port Huron after a battle with breast cancer.
Charlene was preceded in death by her mother Adeline Rose.
She is survived by her 98-year-old father, Clyde; brother and sister-in-law, William and Mary Ellis; nieces and nephew, Tiffany Rose Ellis, Amber Naz (Scott), Lindsey Hlubic (Joel), Chelsea Ellis, Hilary Ellis, Evette Misty Beuschlein, and Tyler Ellis; and grand-nieces and nephews, Taylor and Cole Wakeham (Chelsea), Carter and Jaxin Gilmore (Hilary), Levi (Lindsey and Joel), and Dean and Natalie Rose (Misty).
