James "Jim" Simpkins

Died: Tuesday, August 28, 2018
Age: 80
James “Jim” Simpkins, age 80, of Imlay City, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and their love, admiration and respect on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital. He was born in Hadley, MI, raised in Allenton, MI and attended Milan High School. He married Mildred Kuhn on October 1, 1961 and counted their 56 years of marriage as his greatest blessing in life.

He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 - 1958. Jim supported the NASA program through the Chrysler Corporation in Mississippi and Louisiana by building rocket boosters from 1962-1969, followed by being a General Foreman at the Chrysler Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Jim and his family lived in and were active in the Almont community from 1969 until 1987, when they moved to Imlay City. Jim owned and operated Jim’s TV and Memorable Images Photography Studio in Almont. He had many hobbies throughout his life, including model airplanes, fishing, photography, nature, and building model kits with his grandsons.

Jim was a former member of the Almont Lions Club and the Almont Village Park Board; was a Cub Scout Cubmaster, a Deacon at Almont Congregational Church and an Assistant Naturalist at Seven Ponds Nature Center; was an Ordinance Enforcement Officer in Almont Township; and a proud member of the Lapeer County Tea Party.

One of his greatest treasures in life was his family, especially his grandsons. He took pride in raising a family based on his principles of truth, hard work and patriotism. He always felt “rich” when his cupboards and gas tank were both full, because that meant he could feed his family and get to work!

He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Simpkins; two daughters, Deborah Davis (Daniel) of Belmont, MI and Michelle Nadrowski (Joe Raetz) of Imlay City; and the apples of his eye, his grandsons, Nicholas Davis and Shane Davis. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George and Geneta Simpkins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Almont Lions Hall at the Almont Village Park, 222 Water Street, Almont, MI 48003. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Paws With A Cause, an organization that Jim admired and supported that trains Assistance Dogs for people with disabilities at 4646 South Division, Wayland, MI 49348 or
