Age: 71
Alice M. Funk, 71, of Emmett, passed away surrounded by her loving family Thursday, May 10, 2018 at McLaren Port Huron Hospital. She was born May 8, 1947 in Almont, the daughter of Howard and Barbara (Rider) Bechtel. She graduated with the class of 1965 from Almont High School then went on to attend Eastern Michigan College of Commerce to become a secretary. She married her husband of over 50 years, David Funk, in 1967 at the First Congregational Church in Almont. She had worked as a secretary for Clawson Ford, River District Hospital and the City of Algonac.

Among her many achievements, Alice was a Girl Scout Leader, softball coach for her daughters, PTO officer at the elementary school, coach for the Bulldog Mascots, a member of the First Congregational Church where she was the head of the Hospitality Committee and also sat on the Women’s Ministries Board, and a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. She was very proud of receiving the Thumb Friend of Youth Award and her many Blue Ribbons she won at the Eastern Michigan Fair for her famous chocolate chip cookies.

Alice loved nature including nature drives, deer runs and watching birds. She collected elephants as a hobby and loved each and every one of her over 2000 elephants.

She is survived by her husband, David; two daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Leishman of Marysville and Laura Funk of Emmett; grandchildren Emma and Derek Leishman; sisters, Vernece Bigger of Imlay City, Audrey Rife of Spring, TX, Victoria (Brian) Richardson of Almont, Gloria Lafreniere and Janet (Mike) DiFiazio of Milford, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Beverly Funk; two aunts; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Louis and Mabel Funk, sister Randa Widdows, brothers-in-law Bill Widdows and Bob Litaker, sister-in-law Phyllis Litaker, nephew Mike Litaker and niece Julie Widdows.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospitality Committee at the First Congregational Church.

Funeral Service was held Tuesday, May 15 at the First Congregational Church in Almont.

Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont.
