Arden Mathews, age 80, of Almont, Michigan, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at McLaren Lapeer Region in Lapeer, MI.

Arden Orrin Mathews was born October 5, 1937 in Highland Park, MI. He was the son of the late Andrew and the late Roseltha (Freier) Mathews. Arden grew up in Clyde and Milford, MI. He moved to the Imlay City area in 1954. Arden was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1955. He married Barbara Maybelle Badder on June 10, 1961 in Imlay City, Michigan.

He served in the United States Army from 1961 - 1963.

Arden was employed at Scott’s Hyponex (formerly Anderson Peat) as a long haul truck driver for 47 years before retiring in 2005.

He was a member of Dryden Wesleyan Church for 64 years, the Imlay City American Legion Post # 135 and Sunny Brook RV Club. Arden enjoyed having coffee with friends, luncheons with former Class of 1955 high school classmates and watching the freighters in Port Huron. He was a quiet man.

Arden is survived by his wife, Barbara Mathews; three daughters, Carmen (Bill) Brown of Lapeer, MI, Dawn (Brian) Flowers of Novi, MI and Christine (Stephen) Mathews-Dalton of Seattle, Washington; one son, Robert (Heather) Mathews of Minot, North Dakota; six grandchildren, Michelle Brown, Billy (Ashley) Brown, Kimmy Brown, Ethan Mathews, Gavin Mathews, and Adrian Dalton; and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Boston Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Roseltha Mathews; two sisters, Mary Lou Thomas and Judy Mathews; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Badder and Dick Brinker.

The funeral was held Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Dryden Wesleyan Church, 5274 Main Street, Dryden, MI. Reverend Chris Terbush officiated. Interment of Ashes will take place this summer at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

An American Legion Final Salute took place Saturday. Those wishing to make memorial contributions, may direct them to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or the Dryden Wesleyan Church Building Fund.
