John W. Gabbard, Jr., “Junior”, age 57, of Dryden, Michigan died suddenly Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Hurley Medical Center of Flint, MI. John Wesley Gabbard, Jr., was born August 15, 1960 in Lapeer, MI. He is the son of the late John Wesley and Sarah (Sokolik) Gabbard. Junior was a graduate of the Class of 1978 of Imlay City High School. He married Juli Lynne Hamlin on June 22, 1979 at Lapeer, Michigan. Junior and Juli have lived in Dryden for the last 30 years.

Junior has been employed by General Motors - Flint Metal Fab as a manager in the shipping department for the last 8 years. Before that, he worked for General Motors - Pontiac Metal Fab in the shipping department for 30 years and at G.M. Truck and Bus.

Junior enjoyed watching NASCAR races and working on his own cars, especially his 1968 Oldsmobile “442.”

He is survived by his wife: Juli Lynne (Hamlin) Gabbard; his daughter: Carrie Gabbard of Hadley, MI; his son: Bud Gabbard of Lake Orion, MI; his mother: Sarah (Sokolik) Gabbard of Imlay City; three brothers: Ronald Gabbard of Flint, MI, Donald (& Lori) Gabbard of Tennessee and Thomas (& Jessica) Gabbard of Imlay City, MI. Junior is also survived by two grandchildren: Madison Sills and Trenton Sills. Junior was preceded in death by his father: John W. Gabbard, Sr.

The funeral will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 6 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. Burial will follow in the Burnside Township Cemetery, Brown City, MI. The family will be available for visitation from 10 - 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 6 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
