Raymond “Ray” Martin, age 89, of Dryden, Michigan died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 after an extended illness at McLaren Lapeer Region Hospital in Lapeer, Michigan.

Raymond George Martin was born March 16, 1927 in Gibsonburg, Ohio. He is the son of the late George Joseph and Lela (Myers) Martin. He grew up in Gibsonburg and was a graduate of Gibsonburg High School.

Ray served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1945 until 1947. Ray attended Capitol University in Columbus, Ohio. He married Betty Jane Green on July 28, 1950 in Gibsonburg, Ohio. Ray and Betty have lived in the Almont and Dryden areas since 1968. Ray was employed by Detroit Tank Arsenal in Warren, MI before retiring in 1982. Before working at TACOM, Ray worked at the White Sands Missile Test Range in New Mexico and at Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio.

He was a member of the American Legion in Gibsonburg, Ohio and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Imlay City, Michigan. In college, Ray was a charter fishing boat captain on Lake Erie out of Marblehead, Ohio. He loved fishing and boating, playing golf and spending time with his family and friends.

Ray is survived by: his wife: Betty Jane Martin of Dryden; two daughters: Deborah (Clyde) Caron of Dryden and Denise Marzetti of Imlay City; one son: Bruce (Kay) Martin of Leonard; a daughter-in-law: Kathleen Martin of Port St. Lucie, FL; one sister: Evelyn (Nolan) Gross of Clyde, OH; by 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by: his sister: Anna Daye; his granddaughter: Danielle Mae Caron; his son: Douglas George Martin; and his daughter: Julie Ann Martin.

A memorial service will be held 11 am, Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 200 N. Cedar Street, Imlay City, MI.

The family will be available for visitation 10-11 am, February 17, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
