Betty Jean Yoder, 70, died Friday, December 24, 2010, at Port Huron Hospital. She has lived in Capac the last 5 years and previous 30 years in Almont.

She was born Monday, February 19, 1940, in Lapeer, the daughter of the late Howard L. and Doris Bolton Smith.

Her marriage to Ronald Yoder was July 21, 1962, in Capac.

Betty attended Deerfield Church of Christ, Lapeer where she played the viola, piano and organ. She was an organist at the age of 13 at a Methodist church. She shared her musical talents by teaching music in public and private schools and often assembled recitals for her private piano students. She was a classical pianist and was involved in band directing. Betty taught education to people in a group home in Imlay City.

Betty helped run Ron Yoder Orchards in Almont and showed her love of dogs by raising shih tzu-pekingese mix to sell. She was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord and was “the sweetest, most tender hearted of persons.”

Surviving in addition to her husband Ronald of 48 years are three children, Doreen (Dave) Mueller of Clinton Township, Paul (Camille) Yoder of Almont and Suzanne (Nathan) Dunn of Florida; eight grandchildren, Betty Lew, Jason, Adam, Mary and Joshua Yoder, and Natalie, Alexander and Isaac Dunn; sister, Carol Loree of Arizona; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith of Virginia; daughter-in-law, Tricia Yoder-Schank and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

She is preceded in death by a son, Mark Yoder (2001), an infant grandchild, Stephen Yoder (1999), and her brother, Richard Smith (2007).

Her family honors the memory of Betty and invites you to visit and share memories Wednesday, December 29th, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30th with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Brother Spencer Shelton of Deerfield Church of Christ, Lapeer, will officiate. Burial will be in Hough Cemetery, Almont.

Memorials are suggested to “The Betty Yoder Music Scholarship Fund” or Deerfield Church of Christ, Lapeer.
