Kenneth Joseph Bohr

Died: Friday, September 24, 2010
Age: 87
Kenneth Joseph Bohr, age 87, of Attica and Imlay City (formerly a long-time resident of Almont), went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2010. He was the devoted husband of Rhea for 61 years, father to Janine (Terry) Waterman of Shelby Twp., Bonnie (Tim) Krauss of Almont, and Carole (Ron) Babicz of Sterling Heights; Grandpa to six grandchildren, Hope (Ed) Conley, Teri (Tim) Joyce, Anne (Mike) Bassier, Aaron (Kirsten) Waterman, Keri Waterman, and Kaitlin (Bledi) Lulej; and great-grandpa to Joe & James Conley, Megan & Shannon Joyce, Julia & Tommy Bassier, Toby & Bella Waterman, and Lexi Lulej.

He was born May 27, 1923 in West Nyack, NY, the son of Percival and Charlotte (Garrison) Bohr, and had ten brothers and sisters: Franklin, Frances, Marie, Raymond, John, Eleanor, Emma, Herbert, George and Ronald.

Mr. Bohr left school to help care for his family after the death of his father in 1935. He served 4 years in the U.S. Army during WWII. He drove semi-trucks for most of his career. Long hauls from New York to Michigan brought him to the State where he, two brothers and a sister also moved. He went to work for the Brickley Dairy in 1950 driving milk pick-up routes which introduced him to the Thumb area of Michigan where he settled. He then worked as the shipping and receiving supervisor for Hamill Manufacturing Company in Romeo, and retired from there in 1982. He was an avid and successful gardener and a camper who loved a long road trip. He was an inventive problem solver – he could fix anything, and was often found where someone needed some help. He was always busy with some project or another - changing this, building that, making this better. He had a quick wit and sharp sense of humor and enjoyed bringing a smile to someone’s face.

Mr. Bohr is survived by his children; one brother and one sister, Ron Bohr and Emma Jones of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rhea, his parents, daughter Carole, three sisters, four brothers and one granddaughter.

Visitation will take place on Friday, October 1, from 3 – 8 p.m. at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, 11280 32 Mile Road, Romeo. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 2, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Almont with Pastor Jim Byrd officiating. Internment is at Ferguson Cemetery on Kidder Road in Almont. A luncheon follows. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 881 Van Dyke Road, P.O. Box 155, Almont, MI 48003.
