Jim Homer, 90, of Imlay City passed away, Monday, July 26, 2010 at home.
Arlington James Homer was born on September 19, 1919 on a farm just south of Burnside Township, Michigan. He was the son of John and Sara Homer. Jim grew up in Burnside and spent most of his life in the Imlay City area.
He graduated from Brown City High School class of 1937.
Jim married Dorothy Florence Washer on January 20, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. She passed away on February 6, 2006.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Imlay City. Jim was a member of the Imlay City Masonic Lodge.
Jim attended Central State Teachers College (Central Michigan University) in Mt. Pleasant and taught at Misner School near Lapeer.
He had worked at Packard Motors Tank Plant in Detroit during WWll. Jim founded Imlay City Concrete in 1942, renamed Homer Brothers Block Co. in 1946 and currently known as Homer Concrete Products. Jim was a Master Mason for many years. He retired at the age of 80. Jim served twice on the Imlay City Council and was Mayor Protem.
Jim also assisted people with their taxes from 1985 - 1998.
Jim is survived by sons, James John Homer of Imlay City and Kevin (Rebecca) Homer of Imlay City; daughter, Darlene Homer of Metamora, and Kim (Andrew) Tokash of Woodstock, N.Y.; grandchildren, James D. Homer, Heather Homer, Jeremy Homer, Brandon Homer, Benjamin Homer, Curtis Homer, Kevin J. Homer, Theron Homer, Daniel Kutchey, Amanda Homer, Melody Tokash, and Zylon Tokash, plus eight great-grandchildren:
He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Dorothy Homer; brother, John George “Jack” Homer; and sister, Patricia Seddon.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Imlay City. Pastor Alan Casillas, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Imlay Township Cemetery.
Friends may call Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City where the family will be available for visiting from 1 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. Friday, July 30. There will be a 7:00 p.m. Masonic Lodge service Friday evening.
