Larry Brandt, 70, of Imlay City, passed away suddenly Friday, July 16, 2010 at home. Luren Jack Brandt was born on January 23, 1940 in Imlay City. He was the youngest son of Almon and Anna Brandt. Larry was a graduate of Imlay City High School in the class of 1957. He lived most all of his life in the Imlay City area. He was a member of Imlay City Christian Reformed Church; Larry served in the U.S. Army during the early 1960s. He was married to Elaine Marie Smith on January 14, 1961 in Imlay City, Michigan.

Larry had been a Co-owner of Brandt Farms in Imlay City with his father: Almon; brothers: Al and Bob and their sons. He was a former Imlay City Christian School Board Member; Past-President of the Capac Produce Market. He had a lifelong love of horses and horse racing. He had been a co-owner of a few race horses. He provided space for horse training and had some horses' race at Sports Creek, Hazel Park, Northville Downs, Saginaw Valley and county fairs all around the state. Larry was a member of Michigan Horseman's ASSN.

Larry is survived by his wife Elaine Brandt of Imlay City; son: Greg (wife: Julie) Brandt of Oxford;

daughter: Lucinda (husband: Jon) Jacobson of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren: Myranda Jacobson, Connor Jacobson, Cassidy Jacobson, Sydney Jacobson, Ashley Brandt, and Jackson Brandt; brother: Robert (Kathy) Brandt of Imlay City; sisters: Esther Jager Eckel of Imlay City, Myrtle{Myke} (husband: Art) Vlieg of Imlay City, Ruby Meyer of Imlay City, Shirley (Ron) Gruizenga of Kalamazoo; In-laws: Eleanor Brandt of Imlay City and Helena Brandt of Kalamazoo.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Almon and Anna Brandt; brothers and sisters: Gladys (Arnie) VanderPloeg, Vernon "Bud" Brandt, Orien "Lindy" Brandt, and Almon "Al" Brandt; brothers-in-laws: Jake Jager, Melvin Eckel, and Ben Meyer.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. The Reverend Ronald Fynewever will officiate. The burial will follow in the Imlay Township Cemetery.

A special Veteran Salute was held 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
