Karen Weesies

Mrs. Karen Weesies, age 74, of Montague, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, June 17, 2010 at her home.

She was born in Kalamazoo on June 27, 1935 to Herman and Alice (Vlieg) Bonnema and was raised in Imlay City. After high school, Karen attended Calvin College and graduated with a Bachelors of Education degree.

She married John Weesies, Jr. in September of 1958 and moved to Montague. Mrs. Weesies had worked at New Era Christian School, White Lake Greenhouse and Weesies Brothers Farms. She was a lifelong member of New Era Christian Reformed Church where she was active in singing in the choir, playing the organ and volunteering with food drives. Mrs. Weesies loved her grandchildren and enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her two children, Robert (Tracy) Weesies of Montague and Karla (August) Wacholz of Robinson Township; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah, Katie, Ben, Allan, Beau, Carter, Macey and Nora; one brother, Roger (Charlotte) Bonnema of Hastings and one sister, Nancy Mason of Crossville, TN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Weesies, Jr. and her parents. Services were held June 21, 2010 at New Era Christian Reformed Church.
