John J. Kollar, age 92, passed away peacefully at home following a long illness on Thursday, March 18, 2010. He had resided at Angelic Gardens, Exceptional Elder care in Attica since 2005. He previously lived at Casa Maria in Imlay City and in Lourdes in Clarkston. John’s retirement home was in Lum. His younger years were spent in the greater Detroit area.
John Joseph Kollar was to son of John and Johanna Kollar.He was born November 27, 1917 in Detroit.
He served his country in the United States Naval Service as an Aviation Machinist from August 14, 1942 until December 25, 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal for his service, which included time in the Pacific Theater.
He married Aurelia “Ronnie” Kedziersky on October 16, 1948. Ronnie passed away in 2004.
John and Ronnie loved to travel. Their favorite destinations were San Francisco, California and Hong Kong. He was an inspector for General Electric Carboloy.
He is survived by his son John ( Alma ) Kollar; grandchildren, Jonathan & Jessica.
John will be sadly missed by friends Rob and Pam Holihan and Gerard Garno. Also left to mourn his passing is LeeAnn Velez and family, along with the staff of caregivers at Angelic Gardens.
A Funeral Mass will be held today, March 24, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Father Ezequiel Mondragon will officiate.
