Catharina Ondersma, age 87, of Haslett, passed on to her eternal home on January 18, 2010 from her home in Haslett at the Clare Bridge Center.
Catharina was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands on June 14, 1922 to Rienk and Alberta (Van Dijk) Ondersma. She was the youngest of three children and has been preceded in death by her sister Theodora and brother Raymond (Romke).
Catharina lived a life of giving and caring. She was trained as a nurse at the Akademishe Zickenhuise (Academic Hospital) in Utrecht. She worked for over 30 years as a nurse and Social Worker, mainly in Psych and Addiction Medicine in Utrecht and Amsterdam. At the age of 60 she moved to America with her sister Dora to be closer to family. They settled in Imlay City. In her retirement she was drawn to caring for every four-legged creature that came her way.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mary (Raymond)Ondersma; widow of nephew Bob, Thea Ondersma of Shelburne, Canada; one nephew, Pete (Peggy) Ondersma of Capac; three nieces, Joanie (Jim ) Willett of Grand Rapids, Betty (Ron) Christians of Grand Rapids and Clara (John) Carroll of Laingsburg. She is also survived by 20 grand and greatgrand nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by numerous close friends here and abroad.
A memorial service will be held in Imlay City later this spring.
