Bertha “Honey” Mae Smith of Armada, formerly of Lapeer and Riley Center, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center, at the age of 91 years.

Bertha was born December 10, 1918 in Riley Center, the daughter of Adelbert and Juliette (nee Hart) Hall. On December 19, 1936, Bertha married Clair Erwin Smith at Romeo United Methodist Church. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Capac and a former member of the Eastern Star Memphis Chapter. She was a former employee of Hurdlock in Almont and Vesley Trailers in Lapeer.

Bertha is survived by her daughters, Betty DeSmit of Armada Township, Barb Quain of Capac and Beth (Doug) Russ of Armada Township; sons, Blake (Kathy) Smith of Columbiaville and Brion (Lorraine) Smith of Lapeer; grandchildren, Jana DeSmit, James G. (Colleen) Quain, Timothy M. (Becky) Quain, Jill (Bill) Gardner, Stacie (Richard) Schmidt, Amy (Steve) Ameel, Jane (Bill) Nabors, Paul Russ, Scott Smith, and Dale (Joni) Smith; and 31 great-grandchildren. Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Clair on August 31, 1993; an infant son; an infant great-granddaughter; and sisters, Eunice Eldred and Frances Woolman.

A funeral service took place 11 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Zion United Methodist Church, 14952 Imlay City Rd., Capac. Burial followed in East Berlin Cemetery, Berlin Township.
