William R. Gilliam

William R. Gilliam, 51, of Leonard passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2009.

He was born August 3, 1958 in Big Stone Gap, VA the son of Hayward and Anna (Mullins) Gilliam. He graduated from Almont High School in 1977 and was a Corporal in the Marine Corps serving in Japan.

William was a machine operator at Ford Motor Co. for 30 years and a member of Local 228. He was very involved with the American Legion, loved to hunt and loved University of Michigan football.

He is survived by his parents, Hayward (Nancy) Gilliam of Big Stone Gap, VA and Anna (Dwight) Mullins of Moneta, VA; his two children, Bradley Ray Gilliam and Nora Kayleen Gilliam and their mother, Teresa Gilliam, all of Oxford; brothers and sisters, Hayward Jr. (Sheryl) of Imlay City, Sheila (Joseph) Rheaume of Deckerville, Tammy (Dennis) Chisholm of Columbiaville, Fredrick (Jeanette) of Yale, Sara Gilliam of Big Stone Gap, VA and Charley Gilliam of Stanton, VA; many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is William’s godmother, Marilyn Rheaume and the entire Rheaume family.

Funeral Mass was said Saturday at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden with Fr. Wayne Ureel officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dryden.

Rosary service was held Friday evening at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont.
