Leota Butler, 93, of Imlay City, recently of Lapeer passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at My Home Adult Foster Care in Lapeer.

Leota Mate McKillen was born on February 14, 1916 in Attica Township. She was the daughter of Charles and Idella McKillen. She grew up in the Imlay City area. Leota was a graduate of Imlay City High School class of 1934. She spent most of her life in Imlay City.

She married Merle Butler on September 18, 1939 in Imlay City. Merle passed away on October 11, 1978.

Leota was a member of Imlay City United Methodist Church, Rotary, and OES. She was a pianist for the Imlay City Rotary functions. She also played the organ for Imlay City United Methodist Church for many years and for Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.

She retired in 1981 after 30 years with Imlay City Community Schools where she was a superintendent secretary at the administrative offices.

Leota is survived by her sons, Allen (Carol) Butler of Lapeer and David (Jeanne) Butler of Holt; son-in-law, Roger Berg of California; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Butler; daughter, Janet Berg; infant brother, Lynn McKillen; and her parents, Charles and Idella McKillen.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 20 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City. Pastor Kevin Harbin, pastor of Imlay City United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial followed at Imlay Township Cemetery.

There was an OES service held Thursday evening.
