Herbert C. Ware

Died: Saturday, October 17, 2009
Age: 71
Herbert C. Ware, 71, of Lum, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17, after a short illness.

He was born on Christmas day, 1937, in Marlette, Michigan, to the late Cecil and Alfhild (Lidell) Ware.

He married the former Norma Jean Scott on December 19, 1964 in Sandusky, Michigan.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1957 to 1960. He retired from General Motors in 1997 after 37 years of service.

Herb was also a proud member of the Arcadia Fire Department for more than 43 years, serving as chief from 1973 to 1981 and retiring in 2008.

Herb especially loved playing with his granddaughters. He also enjoyed fishing in the UP with his late father-in-law, Lee Johnson, playing cards and dominoes, watching sports on TV, telling jokes, old country music, working in his garden and tinkering in the garage. He was not one to ever sit still.

Herb was known to be a quiet man with a heart of gold, never thinking twice about helping a friend in need, whether it be plowing someone’s driveway or fixing a leaky faucet.

Herb is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Norma Jean; son Scott (Wendy Grygier) Ware of Virginia; daughter, Teresa (Shawn) Hahn of Midland; granddaughters Shenna (Corey) Bunton of R.A.F., Lakenheath, England; Stephanie Ware of Virginia; Abigail and Sophia Hahn of Midland; sisters Ruth (Bud) Render of Brown City, Evelyn Gassel of Sandusky, Thelma Hill of Sandusky and Esther Burgess of Sandusky; brother Ronnie (Kay) Ware of Millington; several nieces and nephews and many other family mem- bers and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Alfhild Ware and brothers-in-law Stan Gassel, Tom Burgess and Purl Hill.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 20 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pastor Jerry Schriber officiated. He was laid to rest in the Arcadia Township Cemetery, Lum, with a luncheon following at the Arcadia Township Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arcadia Township Fire Department.
