John Louwsma

John Louwsma, 74, of Imlay City, passed away Friday, September 25, 2009 after an extended illness at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy.

John Louwsma was born on January 9, 1935 in Zeeland, Michigan. He was the son of Edward and Ruby Louwsma. He attended Imlay City High School and spent most of his life in Imlay City.

He married Helen Christine Schriber on December 31, 1957 in Flint.

John was employed at the Ford Proving Grounds as a test driver and became scheduling expeditor. He also owned and operated John Louwsma’s Small Engine Repair for 40 years.

He was a member of Imlay City Christian Reformed Church.

John is survived by his wife, Helen Louwsma of Imlay City; son, Michael (Kelly) Louwsma of Imlay City; daughters, Cynthia (Michael) Maike of Fremont and Christina (Matthew) Biazza of Imlay City; grandchildren, Kassidy, Justin, Christopher, Kimberly, Brandyn, Jonathan and Kayla; brothers, William (Beatrice) Louwsma of Attica, Edward (Deanna) Louwsma of Imlay City and Donald (Carol) Louwsma of Attica; and sisters, Clara Zahari of Milford and Lorraine (Donald) Visser of Flushing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruby Louwsma; brothers, Sydney, Henry and Louis (Jean) Louwsma; sister, Ruby Ann Louwsma; and brother-in-law, Peter Zahari.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 29 at Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. The Reverend Ron Fynewever officiated. Burial followed at Imlay Township Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were made by Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
