Alfred F. Bassier, age 92, of Almont, went home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2009. He was born June 13, 1917 in Royalton, Ohio the son of Arthur and Emerance Bassier. He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran and fought primarily in the Asian-Pacific Theater. ‘Fred’ married Eva Avender on October 5, 1946 in Allenton, MI and was a lifetime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Allenton. After retiring from farming, Fred worked many years as a Real Estate broker in the area. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Fred was an avid gardener and enjoyed countless hours tending to his lawn and vegetable garden. He spent many Sundays grilling his ‘famous’ chicken for family and friends. Above all else, Fred had a great love for his family and his country.

He is survived by his wife Eva; 6 children, son John (MaryKay) of Casco, son Thomas(Janet) of Elko, Nevada, daughter Norine (Jack) Mayer of Almont, daughter Elaine (Gordon) Spencer of Almont, daughter Nancy (James) Church of Traverse City, daughter Laura (Rick) Stopczynski of Almont; 19 grandchildren Michael (Anne) Bassier, Jeremy (Jennifer) Bassier, Gretchen Bassier, Eric (Maria) Bassier, Emily Bassier, Kathryn Bassier, Elaine Bassier, Shane Mayer, Brent (Amber) Mayer, Sarah Mayer, Philip Spencer, Jessica (Bryan) Keeping, Laura Spencer, Micaela Church, Ian Church, Rachelle Stopczynski, Megan Stopczynski, Jaclyn Stopczynski; 5 great-grandchildren, Julia & Tommy Bassier, Landon Bassier, Tristan Mayer, and Emma Keeping; 3 sisters, Margaret Kudzia, Martha Bollaert, Betty Bollaert, brother Louis Bassier; numerous nieces & nephews, and his special caregivers, Maria Demick, Felicia Cooper, Kim Polzin, and Kelly Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson Brian Bassier.
