Helen Penzien, 82, of Imlay City, passed away after an extended illness Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Medilodge of Yale.

Helen F. Henschel was born May 4, 1927 in Detroit. She grew up in the Detroit area. She married Hans Brandt in 1949. She married Alfred Herbert Penzien on August 16, 1958 in Imlay City.

She was a homemaker, and had also worked side by side with her husband Alfred on their farm in Goodland Township. She had also worked at Howell Industries in Lapeer and Vlasic Foods in Imlay City. She was a member of the St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Imlay City.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Kathy) Brandt of Lapeer and Kenneth (Laura) Penzien of Imlay City; six grandchildren, David Brandt, Steven Brandt, Joseph Brandt, Kenneth Penzien Jr., Craig Penzien, and Michele Penzien; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred in 2004; her parents, Gustav and Martha Henschel; twin brother, Arthur Henschel; sister, Edna Dege; and brother- and sister-in-law, Norman and Faye Penzien and Florence Wagner.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 1 at the St. Paulís Lutheran Church, Imlay City. Officiating was Reverend Alan Casillas, pastor of the St. Paulís Lutheran Church. Burial followed at Imlay Township Cemetery, Imlay City.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Imlay City or to Hospice.

Funeral arrangements were made by Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
