Allen De Avery, 86, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, at The Oaks of Avon Park, Fla.

De was born October 23, 1922 in Flint, to Charles and Emma (Hutchinson) Avery. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Herman, who was killed in World War II.

De is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Aldine; his son, Dan Avery of Mancelona, and his daughter, Gwen (Avery) Alley, her husband Steve and their daughter, Andrea of Tulsa, Okla. He is also survived by his sister, Norma (Avery) Black of Lakeland, Fla. and his brother James Avery of Las Vegas, Nev.

De was a veteran of World War II serving as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army. He helped run and later owned a Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth/ Imperial dealership in Imlay City, from the 1940s through 1979. After selling his business he taught at the Lapeer County Vo-Tech School in the automotive department.

He was active in the Brown City Missionary Church as a board member and Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was an avid fisherman, loved to travel, to read and do jigsaw puzzles and to spend time with family.

He was a Godly man of integrity and faithfulness. His life was an example to his family and many others. He will be sorely missed but is blessed beyond all measure to be in Heaven with our Lord. A celebration of his life will be held at the Brown City Missionary Church at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 31. Flowers may be sent to the church or a memorial contribution to missions may be made in Des name to the Brown City Missionary church, 8935 Burnside Road, Brown City, Mich. 48416.
