Esther Wilson, 83, of Gladwin, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 after an extended illness at St. Mary’s of Michigan Medical Center in Saginaw.

Esther Della Keller was born July 5, 1925 in Almont. She was the daughter of Cleo and Bertha Keller. She grew up in Almont. She graduated from Almont High School with the class of 1943.

Esther worked for Hurd Lock Co. in Almont during World War II. She married Walter E. Wilson on May 19, 1945 in Almont. Walter died on August 19, 2002.

She had been a member of the First Congregational Church in Almont. She was very active in the bowling leagues in Almont and Capac, and she was a Cub Scout Leader for both of her sons. She loved to cook, watch her favorite sports teams: the Lions, Tigers, Pistons and University of Michigan football.

For many years Esther spent her summers at the family cottage on Wiggins Lake near Gladwin. In 1990, Esther and Walter moved from Almont to Gladwin to retire.

Esther will be fondly remembered by family and friends for hosting many family picnics and reunions at Wiggins Lake. She will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her son, Walter E. (Sarah) Wilson Jr. of Bad Axe; daughter, Kelly (Dr. Alan) Grillo of Hersey, MI; grandchildren, Marie (Delbert) Wilson Cummings of Almont, Kayla, Karri and Alexandra Grillo of Hersey; a sister, Ruth (Maynard {Lee}) Oxyer of Columbiaville; in-laws, Marianne Keller of Houghton Lake, Inez Weston of Cadillac, Lila Trumble of Rhodes, MI and Earl Wilson of Pinconning; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Wilson Sr. in 2002; a son, Shawn R. Wilson in 1982; and a brother, Richard D. Keller in 2008.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wed., June 24) at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City. Pastor William Thorn, pastor of The Church of the Nazarene in Bad Axe will officiate. Burial will follow in Ferguson Cemetery, Almont.
