Jean Freeland, 87, of Imlay City passed away at home after an extended illness Wednesday, June 10, 2009.

Jean Mary Bingman was the daughter of Fred and Cora Bingman, born on November 9, 1921 in Wilmington, Delaware. She grew up in Lathrup Village, MI.

She had lived in Imlay City since the 1980s. Prior to that she lived in Grand Rapids and in Florida.

Jean married John Leslie Walters in 1948. He passed away in 1972. She married her second husband, Melvin Freeland in the 1970s. He passed away in the 80s.

She served her country in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II.

Jean had attended Imlay City United Methodist Church and Imlay City First Congregational United Church of Christ.

She had been employed as a receptionist at McCreay Heating & Cooling in the Troy and Southfield areas.

She was a dancer of off-Broadway musicals and toured the country. Jean traveled across the country with the dance troops.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Karin (Chuck) Canter of Canal Winchester, Ohio; sons, Jon (Sue) Walters of Imlay City and Scott Leslie Walters of Galesburg, MI; grandchildren, Sarah Walters, Ray Walters, Casey Walters, Ryan Walters, Michael Canter, Kelley Canter, Phillip Walters, Jennifer Walters, and Chris Walters; and 2 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, John L. Walters and Melvin Freeland; and a brother, Tom Bingman.

Funeral arrangements were made by Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.
