Juanita Thompson, age 99, a 40 year resident of Dryden and formerly from Grosse Pointe, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009 at her home.

Juanita was born January 9, 1910 in Owensboro, Kentucky, the daughter of William and Beulah (Greenwell) McDowell. She married William Thompson on October 5, 1933 and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2004.

Along with her husband and family, they were the founders/operators of the Preferred Cleaners in Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores for over 65 years, until their retirement in the mid 1990s.

Juanita was a member of the Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church of Dryden and her hobbies included field hockey, basketball, reading, all types of sports, and being with her family and friends.

Juanita is survived by her children, Bruce (Kyong) Thompson and Joyce King, both of Dryden, along with her grandchildren, Tim (Chris) Lorey, Amanda Tenorio, and Jim (Tracy) Androl. Great-grandchildren include Caleb and Joshua Lorey, Kai and Kalani Tenorio and Lily Androl. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenny and Cyle McDowell.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home of Romeo with Rev. Steven Helms of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Dryden officiating. Visitation will take place today (Wed., June 17) from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 3-7 p.m.
