Joseph Geiser, 84, of Almont passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Brianís House Hospice Residence in Davison.

Joseph Anthony Geiser was born July 29, 1924 in Detroit. He was a 1943 graduate of Almont High School. He married Mary Jane Muir on December 9, 1950 in Almont.

Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. Joe served as a paratrooper with the 515th Parachute Infantry Regiment - 13th Airborne Division during World War II in Europe. He earned several commendations: the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Bronze Star.

Joe retired from General Motors Truck and Bus Division in Pontiac in July 1988 after 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, golf, hunting (he was a member of the Almont Archery Club for many years). He also enjoyed camping with his family and was a skilled carpenter and craftsman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and will be greatly missed by all.

Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane of Almont; daughters, Nancy Baruch of Baltimore, MD., Linda (Russ) Renaud of Fredericksburg, VA., and Jane (Mark) Summers of Clarkston; a son, Dean (Cheryl) Geiser of Ojai, CA.; a sister, Leota (Bud) Redd of Hale; grandchildren, Justin Geiser, Jessica Geiser, Michelle (Jason) Renaud-Sagan, Joseph Renaud, Nicole Summers and Katie Summers; great-grandchildren, Camden Sagan and Hanna Sagan; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Magdelina Geiser; sisters, Leona Geiser and Helen Wartikoff; his son-in-law, Charles Winquest; and a niece, Julie Redd Covert.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 27 at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City. Officiating was Reverend Todd Smith, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Lapeer.
