Calvin Hicks, 84, of Imlay City passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 at home.

Calvin George Hicks was the son of Earl and Lutie Hicks, Sr. He was born on January 23, 1925 in Detroit. He grew up in Detroit and later moved to West Branch. He was a graduate of West Branch High School.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Calvin married Marie Jane “Sally’’ Doran on July 24, 1946 in Detroit.

He was a co-owner and vice president of the 4-H Mushroom Cannery in Imlay City from 1968-1987.

Calvin was a member of Imlay City American Legion, Imlay City VFW, and Imlay City Eagles and a member of NRA. He enjoyed reading, collecting guns, gunsmithing and restoration.

He is survived by his sons, Calvin “Peanut’’ (Marcia) Hicks of Imlay City and Kevin (Theresa) Hicks of Imlay City; daughters, Christine Colon of Imlay City and Kathleen Mayes of Washington Twp.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Carol) Hicks of Attica; and sister, Betty Vatter of California. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally Hicks; brothers, Earl Hicks and Frank John “Bud’’ Hicks; sisters, Sue Davis and Lutie Hatfield; and an infant son.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City. Pastor Jeffrey Krist of Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Imlay Township Cemetery.

Friends may call Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City where the family will be available for visiting 3-8 p.m. today (Wed., Feb. 25) and 10-11 a.m. Thursday. There will be a 7:15 p.m. Veteran’s Salute Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
