Johan “Joe’’ Van Stempvoort, 80, of Imlay City passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 at Pasco Regional Medical Center in Florida.
Johan Albertus Van Stempvoort was born on January 15, 1928 in Plymouth. He was the son of Mattys and Tryntje Van Stempvoort. He spent most of his life in the Imlay City area. He attended Imlay City Schools.
Joe married Geraldine Mae Laarman on September 24, 1948 in Imlay City.
Joe was a member of Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. He was a steel purchaser for the tool room at Buick General Motors. He retired after 43 years in 1994. He also farmed.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Geri’’ Van Stempvoort of Imlay City; sons, Phillip (Mary Ellen) Van Stempvoort of Jenison, David (Ronda) Van Stempvoort of Jackson and Paul (Andrea) Van Stempvoort of Kentwood; daughters, Barbara (Rich) Heslinga of Kalamazoo and Cynthia Van Stempvoort of Wyoming, MI; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and brother, Reverend John (Myra) Van Stempvoort of Barrie, Ont.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 5 at Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. The Reverend Kenneth VanderHorst officiated. Burial followed at Imlay Township Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
