Helen Hunter, 85, of Imlay City, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center.

Helen Ida Weingartz was born on April 19, 1923 in Warren. She was the daughter of Peter and Viola Weingartz.

Helen grew up in Imlay City and spent most of her life there. She was a graduate of Imlay City High School class of 1942. She married Kenneth Harold Hunter on May 19, 1947 in Imlay City.

Helen was a life member of Imlay City VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Imlay City. She was also a member of the Green Thumbers Camping and RV Group.

Helen had been employed with General Telephone Company as an operator, was a clerk at Thumb Merchandise, worked at Vlasics, and cleaned Dr. Harringtonís and Dr. Bristolís medical offices in Imlay City.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Hunter of Imlay City; 1 son, Michael (Mary) Hunter of Imlay City; 2 daughters, Patricia Arnaud of Imlay City and Colleen (Ken) Arnaud of Arnaudville, LA; 6 grandchildren, Lisa Hunter, Laurie Peters, Amy (Robert) Johnson, Sam (Melissa) Hunter, Katie (Rocky) Richard and Sara Arnaud; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Leota) Weingartz of Hale; sister, Rita Wilcox of Imlay City; 4 sisters-in-law, Sarah Weingartz of Attica, Lois Weingartz of Imlay City, Arlene Weingartz of Florida, and Leola (Bern) Vlieg of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Viola Weingartz; brothers, James, Clifford, Robert, Peter, Bernard and Donald Weingartz; sisters, Mary Spencer, Margaret Brinker, Gertrude Ruby, Elizabeth Pittenger, Martina Blaszczyk, Josephine Burke, and Roseann Havens; great-granddaughter, Hunter Isabella Johnson; and grandson-in-law, Matt Peters.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Father Ezequiel Mondragon and Deacon Ken Arnaud officiated. Burial followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imlay City.

A rosary/scripture service was held Sunday evening at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
