Age: 55
Reverend Jimmy Barnett, 55, of Imlay City, passed away after an extended illness Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Jimmy Steven Barnett was born May 27, 1953 in Garden City. His family moved to the Capac area where he grew up. He was a graduate of the class of 1970 from Capac High School.

He was married to Pamela Kay Adams on August 20, 1971 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Jimmy was in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. He attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO and graduated with a Bachelors of Theology Degree from the class of 1977. He was a minister in Georgia with the Baptist Church. They moved back to Michigan in 1997. He had been associated with the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church. He had also been a minister for United Methodist Churches in Central Lakeport UMC, Avoca/Ruby UMC, and West Goodland UMC.

Surviving are his wife, Pastor Pamela Barnett of Imlay City; daughter, Karen Abigail Barnett of Imlay City; sons, Jonathan David Barnett and Benjamin James Barnett of Imlay City; his father, Thomas A. Barnett of Addison; his mother, Mary Etta Barnett of Westland; mother-in-law, Mary Adams of Imlay City; brothers, Skip Daniel (Vicki) Barnett of Munising and Bud Alan (Katrina) Barnett of Westland; and sisters, Diane Marie Barnett and Bonnie Lee Dickinson, both of Addison. He was preceded in death by 2 children, James Cyril Barnett and Sara Katherine Barnett; his brother, Thomas E. Barnett; and father-in-law, Reverend Cyril Lonnie Adams.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 23 at the West Goodland United Methodist Church, Imlay City. The Dr. Rev. Thomas Macaulay and the Dr. Rev. Albert H. VanNus officiated. There was a special veteran’s salute at the church following the funeral service.

Funeral arrangements were made by Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
