Jay Northrop, 89, of Imlay City passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at home.

Jay was born on March 22, 1919 in Attica. He was the son of Ashley and Dolly Northrop. He grew up in Attica and spent most of his time in the Imlay City area. He was a graduate of Attica High School. He lived in Hillman from 1977-1990.

He married Rose Sarah Elwart on May 28, 1945 in Imlay City. She passed away in 1980.

Jay was a member of Imlay City VFW and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. He was employed by GM Truck & Coach in Pontiac for 34 years, retiring in 1974.

Jay is survived by his children, Rosalie (Ken) Hinman of Lum, Stanley (Diana) Northrop of Waterford, WI, Wally (Karen) Northrop of Lum, Marylou Northrop of Grand Rapids, Matthew Northrop of St. Clair, and Patrick Northrop of Commerce; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Northrop; special friend, Ethel Oland in 2004; grandchildren, Stephanie Northrop in 1986 and Brockton Northrop in 1998; daughter-in-law, Barbara Northrop; 4 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, July 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Father Ezequiel Mondragon will officiate with burial at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Hillman.

Friends may call Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City where the family will be available for visiting from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. today (Wed., July 2). There will be a 7:15 p.m. Veteran’s Salute and a 7:30 p.m. Rosary Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
