John D. Atkinson, 65, of Brown City and formerly of Sylvania, Ohio died June 8, 2008. He was born in Detroit to Jack and Emily Atkinson on September 18, 1942.
He graduated from McKenzie High School in Detroit and entered the United States Marine Corps. He served his country and was a Vietnam Veteran. He attended Oakland University and received his Associate Degree.
Jack was a purchasing agent for Parker Hannifin in Metamora, Ohio for 39 years. He was a member of his local Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling.
Jack is survived by three children, Michael (Lisa) Atkinson of Coraopolis, PA, Kevin (Kristine) Atkinson of Roseville and Colleen (John) Tomaszewski of Almont; nine grandchildren; and five siblings, Ethel Iafano, Margaret Bidinger, Sally (James) Kalbfleisch, Karen McCallum and William Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Searls.
A gathering for family and friends will be today (Wed., June 11) from 2-8 p.m. at Carman Funeral Home at 4347 Main St. in Brown City.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 12 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
