Harry Friday, 88, of Imlay City, recently of Fort Gratiot, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 after an extended illness at the Evangelical Home of Port Huron.

He was born July 16, 1919 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, one of 17 children of Adolf and Emma (Schiller) Friday.

Harry grew up near an Indian reservation in Pittsville, Wisconsin. As a child he learned to play music (the “spoons,” harmonica, and guitar) and wrote and sang his own songs.

He was married to Hildreth Hill on October 12, 1940 in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army’s 349th Infantry in the European Theater of War during World War II.

Harry and Hildreth moved from Detroit to Almont and then to Imlay City. They have lived in Imlay City since the mid-1970s. He was a truck driver for L&L Products of Romeo for over 15 years. He retired in 1985.

Surviving are wife, Hildreth Friday of Medilodge of Yale; daughters, Sharon Brunk of Imlay City and Connie (George) Kelly of Imlay City; sons, Gary (Debbie) Friday of Las Vegas and Gordon (Cruz) Friday of Warren; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter Friday of Wisconsin Rapids, WI. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Shane Friday.
