Raymond Ambrose, 86, of Dryden passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center.

He was born May 5, 1921 in Kentucky the son of Granville and Mae (Smith) Ambrose.

Mr. Ambrose was employed by the C.C.C. On July 21, 1942 he married Amelia Pelfrey. They moved to Michigan in 1948 where Raymond was employed by Associated Trucking Co. in Detroit retiring after 25 years. They lived in Dryden since 1953 and were married 62 years. He was a member of the Dryden Wesleyan Church and loved farming as a hobby along with his many acres of vegetables, all of which he would sell at roadside markets enjoying all the people he met.

He is survived by his children, Lovina (Richard) Gruenewald of DeWitt, Elton Ambrose of North Branch and Freda (Dick) Reynolds of Sturgis; stepchildren, Reed Crawford of Lapeer, Olene (Bill) Buchanan of South Lyon, Gertrude Ferrel of Kalamazoo and Wendel Crawford of Kincheloe; four grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Bessie Brewer of Stanton, KY, Golden Caudill of Sharonville, OH, Verna Kincade of London, OH, Anna Morton of Lafayette, TN; and one brother, Ollie Stanhope of London, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Amelia; step-children, Alamae Newton and O. Jack Crawford; and one step-grandchild, Sharon Buchanan.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 21 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont with Pastor Paul Parker of the Free Methodist Church of Lapeer officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dryden.
