Rev. Dr. Douglas Okodie Asamoa, 66, of Hooksett, NH died February 26, 2008 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH.

He was born in Amonokrom - Akwapim, Ghana on August 1, 1941, the son of Adelaide Amma Brepo and Lawrence Apau Oyirifi Akoto.

He graduated from St. Andrews College in Mampong Ashanti in 1964 as a certified teacher. He came to the United States in 1968 and attended Andover-Newton Theological Seminar, graduating with a Masters of Divinity degree in 1972. He then went on to earn a PhD in Education in 1979 from Boston University.

In the UCC denomination, he was Associate Minister of the First Congregational Church in Waltham, MA from 1976 to 1978. From 1978 to 1981, he served in the United Church of Christ in Medfield, MA as a Minister of Christian Education. From 1984 to 1989, he was the Minister of Christian Education and Visitation at the Congregational Church of Topsfield, in Topsfield, MA. From 1989 to 1991, he was at the First Congregational Church in Manchester, NH as Minister of Christian Education. He served for five years as the pastor of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lansing, MI and also as the pastor of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Imlay City, for eight years, until he retired from active ministerial work in September 2007.

In his life: Family members include his wife, Georgina Osae Akonnor of Hooksett, NH; a son Erasmus Asamoa of Brentwood, NH; a daughter, Adelaid Ansah of Hooksett, NH; and three grandchildren, William, Andrew and Althea, all of Hooksett; four brothers and one sister, and many nephews, niece and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 4:00 in the Bedford Presbyterian Church, Bedford, NH. Later this month, his body will be laid to rest in his homeland of Ghana.
