Jay Ricketts, 52, of Emmett passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Port Huron Hospital.

Jay was born on April 19, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of James Brewerton and Nancy Louise (Kent) Ricketts II. He grew up near Milwaukee, WI.

Jay graduated from Eisenhower High School in Utica class of 1973. He attended MSU and earned a BA in Economics from WSU. He was currently enrolled at Madonna for Ministry Music.

He married Kimberly Kay Quarters on October 22, 1978 in Auburn Hills.

Jay had been employed as a Computer Systems Analyst at Compuware in Detroit for the past 11 years.

He had been a musician for St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden, St. Elizabeth’s in Detroit, St. Blaze in Sterling Heights, St. John’s in Allenton, and St. John Paul Lutheran in Romeo. He was also a musician in the rock bands Ozzie, Empties, 33 1/3, and Euphoria.

Jay is survived by his wife, Kimberly Ricketts of Emmett; son, Andrew (Sarah) Ricketts of Grand Blanc; daughter, Jessica Ricketts of Shelby Twp.; 4 grandchildren, Alyssa Ostrander, Colin Vercnocke, Wesley McElrath, and Lauren Ricketts; brother, Matthew (Cynthia) Ricketts of Marietta, GA; step-mother, Dorothy Ricketts of Sequim, WA; and step-grandmother, Laurie Ricketts of Reno, NV. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Nancy Ricketts, and sister, Alison Ricketts Brunner in 1989.

Funeral Mass was held Monday, February 25 at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden. Father Wayne Ureel officiated. Interment followed at Capac Cemetery.

Rosary/Scripture service was held Sunday evening at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.
