Peggy Lindberg Harris Toohey

Died: Sunday, December 30, 2007
Age: 69
Peggy Lindberg Harris Toohey of Bristol, Rhode Island, beloved wife of Frank Toohey and mother of Elizabeth Harris of Belleville, Michigan and Thomas Harris of Newport, Rhode Island, died on Sunday December 30, 2007 at the age of 69 at the Philip J. Hulitar Hospice Center. She was born in October 1938 in Seekonk, Massa-chusetts, the oldest of four girls to the late Walter Lindberg and Margaret Chalmers Lindberg of Port Glasgow, Scotland.

Peggy graduated from East Providence High School and entered Boston University in 1956. She graduated in 1960 with a degree in education and married Mr. Thomas Harris, former car dealer for several years in Imlay City and an executive with General Motors. Following a number of assignments, they moved to Michigan where they operated a successful automotive dealership for many years while raising two great children, Elizabeth and Thomas.

During this time, Peggy was a successful executive in a number of automotive ventures. She returned to the Rhode Island area in 1980 and to her business interests locally. She married Frank Toohey in 1989.

In recent years, Peggy had the opportunity to ‘give back’ to her communities. In this process, she developed a series of extraordinary relationships – befriending women of all ages as they themselves restored their lives from mishap. A friend of many years describes Peggy as consistently kind, thoughtful, loyal, honest, gentle ... living her life with humility and dignity.

In addition to her husband, children and mother, Peggy is survived by her sisters, Judith Lawson and her husband Richard of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, Susan Howell of Barrington, Rhode Island, and Kathleen Pearson of Bristol, Rhode Island; her step-children, Kathryn Whittel and her husband Joe of West Hartford, Connecticut, Frank Toohey III and his wife Susan of Medfield, Massachusetts and Martha Conneely and her husband Michael of Wethersfield, Connecticut; her grandchildren, Austin, Daniel, Eamon, Grace, Maggie and Marin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and very dear friends.

We celebrated Peggy’s memory at The Seekonk Congregational Church – United Church of Christ, Seekonk, Massachusetts on Saturday, January 5, 2008 with a ceremony led by the Reverend Joy Utter. The ceremony ended in the church’s Community Center where her family and friends united in healing with a collation. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charity of your own choice.

The sun is shaded.

Dear light recedes to

shadow –

Warmth of love endures.
