Sylvia Becherer, 57, of Imlay City, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at Lapeer Regional Medical Hospital after an extended illness.
Sylvia Marie Becherer was born on June 29, 1950 in Detroit. She was the daughter of Eldon and Sylvia Marie (Pervan) Becherer.
Sylvia graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit class of 1968. She earned her Bachelors degree in education from Western Michigan University in 1972 and her Masters from Michigan State University in 1986.
She liked to “Champion’’ her hometown of Detroit; she was a great promoter of the “arts’’ in Detroit and in Tawas and the East Tawas areas.
Sylvia was well known at Imlay City High School for her costume Halloween parties. She thought of herself as the “statistician’’ for a golf group of her former fellow teachers.
Sylvia taught business education, math and computers at Imlay City High School from 1973-1999. She was a charter member of Belle Isle Botanical Society. She liked making floral arrangements at Past Tense in Lapeer, sewing and making crafts.
She is survived by several cousins and close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wed., Dec. 19) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Father Don Hanchon of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Detroit and Father Ezequiel Mondragon of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City will officiate. Burial will take place at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in Livonia on Thursday.
