Maizie Cameron, 99, the oldest resident at The Harrington in Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007.
She was born November 2, 1908 in Jeddo the daughter of Elias and Gertrude Hillock. She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1925 then from Michigan State Normal College in 1927 and received her Masters degree from Wayne State University in 1942.
Maizie was a teacher for 44 years in St. Clair Co. Rural Schools, Hazel Park, Almont, and Van Dyke Schools in Warren retiring in 1972.
She married William Reid Cameron in June 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1978.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Almont, Retired Teachers in Lapeer County, Almont Rebekah Lodge and Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.
She is survived by nieces and nephews: Andrew and Lois McIntyre of Houghton Lake and Grover and Debbie McIntyre of Port Huron; and great nieces and nephews Shannon and Heather, Andrea and Tammy. Also surviving are four great-great nephews and 3 great-great nieces and special friends the Worden family and the Ellis family. She was preceded in death by her husband Reid and one sister Beth McIntyre.
Funeral services were held on Friday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont with Rev. Mark Melillo officiating. Burial was made in Ferguson Cemetery in Almont. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, The Harrington or Hospice of Michigan.
