Jack Hartel, 75, of Imlay City passed away Friday, October 19, 2007 at his home.

Jack August Hartel was born on November 7, 1931 in Argyle, Michigan. He was the son of Loren and Helen Muriel (McIntosh) Hartel. He grew up in Argyle and went to school in Sandusky, graduating from Sandusky High School in 1950.

Jack earned a Purple Heart while serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He married Valarie J. Ray on July 2, 1955 in Angola, IN. He spent most of his life in the Imlay City area.

Jack was a member of the Imlay City VFW, Imlay City American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Imlay City Historical Museum, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Imlay City and a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church of Capac.

He had worked as a plant manager and sales manager for Champion for 20+ years. Jack also worked for Van Epoch in Sterling Heights, and Fantastic Vent in Imlay City for 10 years working until just recently.

Jack is survived by his wife, Valarie Hartel of Imlay City; son, Michael Hartel of Troy; 2 daughters, Kimberly (Jake) Newton of Imlay City and Lori Hartel of Imlay City; 3 grandchildren, Shana Hartel, Jake Newton and Kaytlin Newton; brother, Donald (Wanalee) Hartel of Ubly; 2 sisters, Bonna (Allen “Ike’’) Stern of Sand Lake and Wanda (Russell) Hicks of Riley Center; aunt and uncle, Peter and Lorraine McIntosh of Harsen’s Island; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Robert) Forte of Farming-ton, Sandy Spencer of Port Huron and Mary Jane (George) Lang of Attica; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 22 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Capac. Father Wayne Ureel officiated with burial at Imlay Township Cemetery. Pall bearers were Rene Feyes, Robert Hopp, Mike Hartel, Larry Milks, Little Jake Newton and Randy Klug.

Rosary service and a Veteran’s salute was held Sunday evening at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
