Maurice Gass, 82, of Imlay City, passed away Friday, September 7, 2007 at his home.

Maurice Robert Gass was born on May 17, 1925 in Dryden. He was the son of Robert and Bessie (Talmage) Gass. He grew up in the Imlay City area and lived most of his life here. He is a graduate of Imlay City High School Class of 1944.

He served his country in the U.S. Army’s 33rd Armored Regiment during World War II.

Maurice married Mary Ann Smith on October 1, 1952 in Imlay City. He operated the Lone Elm Service Station which his father built in 1927. They sold gasoline, oxygen, welding gases and hunting supplies. Maurice was a self-employed welder and mechanic.

He attended West Goodland United Methodist Church and was an American Legion member in Imlay City.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Gass of Imlay City; son, Charles “Chuck’’ (Tonya) Gass of Imlay City; daughter, Judy (Edwin) Mijares of Plainfield, IL; brother, Harold (Phyllis) Gass of Imlay City; 9 grandchildren, Andrea (DJ) Link, Lauren Gass, Danielle Gass, Allison Gass, Jessica Mijares, Erin Mijares, Michael Mijares, Kyle Gayda, and Joseph Gass; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wed., Sept. 12) at West Goodland United Methodist Church in Imlay City. Pastor Pamela Barnett will officiate. There will be a Veteran’s Salute at the church.

Memorials may be made out to United Hospice or West Goodland United Methodist Church.
