Nell 'Nellie’ Maye (Little) Lee

Nell “Nellie’’ Maye (Little) Lee, 85, of Palm Harbor, Florida went to be with her soul mate, A. Howard “Honey’’ Lee, on August 13, 2007.

She was born July 22, 1922 in Helechawa, Kentucky to Charles and Jennie (Pack) Little. She was married on August 30, 1947 to A. Howard Lee. They had homes in Almont, Michigan; Lexington, Michigan; and Palm Harbor, Florida.

Nell attended Hazel Green Academy in Hazel Green, Kentucky and graduated with the class of 1940. She often went back for school reunions. She loved the hills of Kentucky and referred to them as “Heaven on Earth.’’ Nell was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Nell and Howard owned and operated Almont Recreation, a restaurant and bowling alley, for 27 years where they were remembered for their hamburgers and homemade pies. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards, bargain shopping, flea markets, crafts and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia (Peggy) Brackett of Reed City; granddaughters, Deb Aten of Big Rapids and Tammy (Matt) Babcock of Reed City; seven great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Kermit (Maryann) Little of Kentucky; and nephew, Mark Little of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Lee; and two grandsons, Lee Peterson and Tom Aten.

She was laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery in Reed City, Michigan beside her beloved husband of 55 years.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 16 at 1 p.m. at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont. In lieu of flowers, you may make memorial contributions on behalf of Nellie to the Macular Degeneration Assocation or the Lions Club.
