Lieutenant John Palacios, 57, of Imlay City passed away Saturday, September 1, 2007 at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy after an extended illness.

Juan Mario Palacios was born March 3, 1950 in Elsa, Texas the son of Jose and Maria Felicitas Palacios. He grew up in Imlay City and he lived most all of his life in Imlay City.

John was a graduate of the Imlay City High School Class of 1969. He graduated with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Mott Community College in Flint. He started working for the Imlay City Police Depart-ment on Nov. 1, 1973. He retired Aug. 23, 2007.

He was married to Leonor “Machi’’ Rodriguez on December 18, 1971 in San Juan, Texas. John had been employed by the City of Imlay City Police and Department of Public Safety. As a part of his job, he was the DARE Officer for several years and the Liaison Officer to the schools for several years. He was a member and Past-President of Imlay City Eagles, Imlay City High School Board Member, Imlay City Ambulance Attendant and Assistant Director, a local CPR instructor, and a friend to many in the community.

Surviving are his wife, Leonor “Machi’’ Palacios of Imlay City; daughter, Angie (Keenan) Meredith of Almont; twin sons, Tony Palacios of Imlay City and Toby Palacios of Imlay City; a granddaughter, Kali Palacios; his father, Jose Palacios of Imlay City; and three sisters, Maria (Warren) Boyne of Imlay City, Angie (Ken) Parrish of Imlay City and Enriqueta Villanueva of Imlay City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Felicitas Palacios; a sister, Paula Almendarez; and a brother, Bernadino Palacios.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imlay City. Friends may call at the Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City where the family will be available for visiting today (Wed., Sept. 5) from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. On Tuesday evening a special Imlay City Eagles Memorial was held. Tonight (Wed., Sept. 5) a special Policemen’s Salute at 7:15 p.m. and a 7:30 Rosary Service will be held at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Imlay City.
