Leo F. Kohlhagen

Age: 88
Leo F. Kohlhagen, 88, of Almont passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills.

He was born August 18, 1918 in Romeo the son of Harry and Edith (Eldred) Kohlhagen. He married Dorothy Stringham on March 9, 1940 in Romeo.

Leo began butchering at the age of 14 on a farm in Romeo; from there he owned and operated Kohlhagen’s Market and Packing House also in Romeo. In the 1970’s Leo owned and operated Lee’s Country Meats in Almont until his retirement. After his retirement Leo worked at the Almont IGA sharpening their knives and helping when he could.

He was a member of West Berlin United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Ad Board and chairman of the Trustees, as well as serving as an usher often and was instrumental with the new building addition.

Leo was also a member of the Michigan Conservat-ion Society. He and his wife lived on a Centennial Farm in Almont where he farmed and had a great love for the land. He was an avid hunter taking many hunting trips out west with friends. His biggest love was for his friends and family and he will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Patricia Hazzard of Almont and Carolyn (Al) White of Arvada, CO.; grandchildren, Lorie Hazzard of Romeo, Beth (Mark) Willis of Capac, Justin White of Denver, CO. and Casey Gartner of Arvada, CO.; and great-grandchildren, Greggery Willin of Washington, MI, Corey Willin of Capac, Keara Gartner and Wesley Gartner of Arvada, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dallas Hazzard; one sister, Geraldine Compton; and 2 infant brothers, Norman and Harry Kohlhagen, Jr.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 30 at West Berlin United Methodist Church in Allenton with Rev. Dianna Rees officiating. Burial was made in West Berlin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to West Berlin United Methodist Church piano fund in memory of Leo Kohlhagen.

Arrangements were made by Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont.
