Nola Jeanne (Turner) Sadler

Died: Wednesday, May 09, 2007
Age: 77
Nola Jeanne (Turner) Sadler passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. She was born July 25, 1930 in Marion, Michigan. The firstborn of two girls to Ervin and Mary Turner, Nola lived with her parents and sister Doris Mae in Marion until her marriage to Thomas Sadler on June 18, 1950.

Growing up in a small town as a ‘farm-girl’, Nola joined her father in farm chores and worked beside her mother and Doris in their two acre garden behind the house. Days were filled with the usual mix of chores and fun with friends or visiting and helping family members throughout Marion.

Love and kindness was ‘baked-in’ to Nola and her sister by their parents as they grew. Their mother taught school in the ‘country’ one-room school house and watched over the children as an extended family. The girls saw their mom fill in gaps for those families by gathering clothes and shoes and food and giving rides on winter days. Their dad worked hard and always helped family and friend with any need.

Those lessons bore out in the lives of Nola and Doris through many, many acts of love and kindness to family and friends alike. Nola opened her arms in love to anyone that arrived and made sure they were welcomed and well fed.

After marriage in 1950 at age 19, the happy couple set up house in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Through job changes and a number of moves, they arrived in Almont, Michigan to purchase the Almont Times-Herald newspaper in 1957. They combined the publications of Almont, Capac and Dryden and opened an Imlay City office – creating the Tri-City Times in 1977.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one granddaughter Laurie Lee. Nola is survived by her husband Tom, children Tom (Diane), Tim (Teena), Mari and Ted (Amy), seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Doris Turner and many more loving relatives.

Services were held Saturday May 12, 2007 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a special account with the Almont-Dryden Lions Club to benefit local families in crisis.
