First of all, thank you so much for the excellent article written by Tom Wearing this past summer introducing our new pastor, Fr. Paul Ward of Sacred Heart Parish. It was very nice and gave him a warm welcome to our town.
As you may well imagine, he has been busy getting acclimated to our area as well as getting to the many tasks at hand involved in running a parish. He has found a special spot in the hearts of our youth as this seems to be a special charisma he has, which brings me to the true point of this letter. Father is organizing a pilgrimage for young people to attend World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain for August 2011 to be with the Pope.
World Youth Day was started by our previous Pope, John Paul II in order to connect with the youth of the world and has been going on every 3 years since that time. Father Ward has organized pilgrimages for youth ages 16-30 for several of these events in Germany and most recently in 2008 to Australia (which 2 of my children were able to attend). Several kids from the area are trying to raise the $2,700 needed for the Madrid trip and are in the midst of many local fundraisers—selling Christmas trees, euchre tournaments, bake sales, and a winter rummage sale which is coming up Jan 7 and 8 to be held in the Sacred Heart Hall.
Thank you for your fair coverage of happenings in our area. Have a blessed Advent and Christmas Season.
