Receiving award a humbling experience

To the Editor:

I have been receiving some razzing and actually, some praise, for the brevity of my acceptance speech at the recent Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner Dance on Dec. 4.

Well, now that I have recovered from the event, and my wits have at least partially returned to me, I would definitely like to thank Kim Marrone and the Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for the honor that was presented to me so eloquently by Randy Jorgensen. It was a humbling experience; an evening I will never forget.

I am also very grateful to my husband, Richard, for his patience with me and my 'projects.' When you give your time it can be for an hour, a week, or a year and sometimes a little turns into a lot, but it is always a growing and satisfying learning experience, during which time you meet some wonderful people. Though a volunteer should never expect to be thanked, it does feel great to know that you are appreciated.

There are so many unsung heroes in our community and yet there are even more opportunities available. Your local school, church, library, and non-profit organization, to name a few, all need you. I'd love to have you join me on the Blueberry or ACS Relay for Life Committees. Get out there and give of yourself…just be sure to have your thank-you speech ready!

Sincerely,

—Yvonne Wilson
