Steve Spillerís friends extended their support

To the Editor:

On October 23, Cedar Lanes played host to a fundraiser in order to support Steve Spiller's battle with metastatic melanoma. Over 80 people were in attendance for the night's festivities, in addition to numerous other people that provided donations in the weeks prior to the event.

Donations for the event included holiday gift baskets, Detroit Lions and Red Wings tickets, sports memorabilia, and much more. Many local businesses showed their support by sponsoring bowling lanes and providing additional donations.

"It was an amazing night, said Connie Crawford, Steve's sister. "Cedar Lanes was over-filled with love from so many people that didn't even know him. Our little town gave our family so much comfort and love. I will never forget each and every face and hug!"

As the night concluded, many of the prize winners chose to present their winnings back to the cause. Sadly, Steve passed away at his home about 30 minutes after the last person left the event, so we were unable to express to him the overall impact of the benefit. The funeral for Steve Spiller was held Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer.

From the bottom of our hearts, our family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming generosity and support through these tough times.

Sincerely,

—The Spiller family
