Police appreciate help during power outage

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the citizens of Almont for the outpouring of support during the recent power outage. As you know the police had to direct traffic at the traffic light at Main and St. Clair streets. We did this so that not only the citizens of Almont but the people passing through our village did so without incident and also to get the pedestrians across the street safely.

As we all know it was extremely hot out during this outage and standing in the roadway directing traffic wasn't the easiest on the officers. Several people came to our rescue, delivering water, Gatorade and other fluids for us. We all wish to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts, it was greatly appreciated. We had several other offers to get more drinks as well and we thank those citizens too.

I am happy to say that 99.9% of the people that passed through town on Thursday and Friday were great. The police department had little problems with the vehicles passing through. We however ask one thing when you see police anywhere directing traffic, please pay attention to us. We are there making sure that nothing happens to you. Stay off the cell phones!!!! We, the police, need your undivided attention. It's not easy standing out there with cars driving by you who are not paying attention.

Again, thank you so much for the drinks and kind words. The Almont Police Department is here to serve the citizens of Almont and I hope that we made this unhappy experience a little easier for all motorists. I know every officer that assisted downtown expresses their thanks as well.

Sincerely,

—Sgt. John Morse
