‘Seven Dwarfs’ experience the true spirit of helping others

To the Editor:

The 2010 Relay For Life held June 12-13 in Imlay City served as a wonderful opportunity for a group of seventh grade girls from Almont to take part in a national effort to celebrate, remember, and fight back against the dreaded disease of cancer.

The girls chose to focus their efforts on this project as they reflected on how their own families and friends have been affected. They embraced their team name, 'The Seven Dwarfs,' and created all of their own decorations, activities, and fundraising projects. Through their hard work and commitment, they were able exceed their initial goal of $500 and raised over $2,000. Along the way, they met many wonderful people, shared stories and experienced the true spirit of helping others. They could not have reached their goal without the help of supportive family and friends and t he local community. They would like to recognize the Almont Hideaway Lanes, Almont Lions Club, Almont Middle School, Country Corner, Charlie Brown's, Jim Gastomski, Herb Lowell, Wes Wagester, the offices of Dr. Jay Vanderest and Lois Meek and everyone who contributed to reaching our goal.

Thank you Almont!
