Youth For Understanding (YFU) would like to thank the community of Capac and Capac High School for welcoming four of our exchange students this year. Our students, Louise (from Belgium), Clemens (from Austria), Zander (from Switzerland), and Mikita (from Belarus) have enjoyed a very warm welcome from the people of Capac. This community has treated them as one of their own, the kids look forward to having ties to Capac for many years to come!
Here's what one of them had to say about her experience:
My name is Louise Holtzem and I'm an exchange student from Belgium. I stayed with the Camires. They were an amazing host family. I have learned so much this year, not only about American culture but also about myself. This experience has helped me grow into a better person. I have met so many interesting people. This year has been full of surprises! I was part of the musical and I won an art contest.
In a way, I look forward to going home but I know that I will miss everyone so much! I would like to thank Kathi and Youth for Understanding—they have done an amazing job. I would also like to thank Capac High School, my family, my host family and all my friends.
Youth for Understanding USA (www.yfu-usa.org) is now looking for some local host families to host high school exchange students for next school year. Host families provide a place to live and three meals a day plus the encouragement, advice and love to help their new family member through a semester or year in a new home. The students bring their own spending money and good health insurance plus the willingness to be a good family member, following family rules and helping out with family responsibilities. YFU provides local representatives who support the students and families to make sure it's a good experience for all involved.
Call the local Field Director for more information to see if hosting might be right for you and your family. You can request profiles of students with interests similar to your own. Contact me, Kathi Moran, at 248-681-7650 or toll free at 1-800-872-0200, ext. 249. Or e-mail me at Kmoran@yfu.org.
